At the Financial Opportunity Center, Volunteers of America Texas is helping people gain financial stability – for good. By empowering individuals with critical skills and tools using a proven, research-based curriculum, we are changing the face of poverty, one person at a time.
The Financial Opportunity Center offers a wide array of bundled services in three core areas: increased wages, improved finances and access to public benefits.

The Independence Heights Financial Opportunity Center in Houston is supported by LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) and the United Way THRIVE collaboration. It offers a range of employment services, financial education and planning support that helps individuals improve their financial knowledge and health.

Funded by a grant from the Montgomery County United Way, the new Financial Opportunity Center offers financial counseling, vocational training, job readiness training and individual career counseling, among a number of other services specific to the needs of Montgomery County residents.
Orientations are currently available every Friday at 9 a.m. at our location at 4808 Yale Street in Houston’s Independence Heights community. The center also hosts a four-day job readiness and financial literacy workshop every month, including female-only classes. Services are free and offered to all.
