Holiday Donations Make a Difference for Hundreds Served by Volunteers of America Texas

Dallas (December 23, 2015) – Hundreds of people will have more reasons to smile this Christmas, thanks to donations given to Volunteers of America Texas. VOA Texas, a faith-based nonprofit organization that lifts the most vulnerable in society out of the shadows, held its annual Hope for the Holidays donation drive to help its clients in need to have a more enjoyable Christmas.

Many of the individuals served are residents of VOA Texas housing sites-there are more than 40 throughout Texas and New Mexico-while others included individual clients.

"We are overwhelmed with thanks for the amount of generosity shown for the people we serve who are in need," said Angela King, president and CEO of VOA Texas. "This year we chose to focus on individuals with the most critical needs. If you look at the list, clients requested items that we would think are necessities, yet they're asking for these items for Christmas!"

Individual gifts included everything from slippers, cologne/perfume and mattresses. Some contributors provided holiday meals which served hundreds of seniors at VOA Texas housing sites throughout the organization's service territory.

"Many of our contributors have made it customary to help each year. We are truly grateful for them and the donors who support VOA Texas on a consistent basis," said King.

VOA Texas steps forward to help individuals find strength, healing and reach their full potential through services which include addiction treatment, prevention and recovery programs; affordable housing for seniors, low-income families and adults with disabilities; community re-entry programs from those transitioning from prison; housing and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities; supportive services for veterans and their families who are at risk of being homeless and a continuum of support services to assist clients and address the needs of the whole person.

With locations in more than 30 urban and rural communities VOA Texas has been making a difference for those who need the most help in Texas for nearly 100 years. While the giving season may be over for some, it's not too late to help make a difference. You may donate year round to VOA Texas by clicking here.
