It’s Mardi Bras Season!
DALLAS, TX – When a woman is released from prison, they leave without personal dignity items that help them transition to live outside of the prison walls. Volunteers of America Texas is a ministry of service dedicated to helping the vulnerable to reach their full potential. The VOA Texas re-entry programs benefit more than 1,500 people – nearly half are women.
Businesses, organizations and community members are encouraged to host a Mardi Bras Party and collect monetary donations, bras, underwear, pads, tampons and bus passes for women who are recently released from jail or prison.
“Having these items make a difference in a woman's confidence and ability to harness her power and reclaim her life. That's why we believe, when you host a party, you can make a difference,” said Vice President of Development, Robin Head.
VOA Texas serves more than 7,000 individuals and families each year by providing a better quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, fostering independence for seniors, serving homeless veterans, providing job training to low in-come individuals and second chances to people re-entering society from prison.
Individuals who are interested in hosting a party to help women in need, may sign up online www.voatx.org/mardi-bras. Parties will be held from February 1 – March 15, 2020.
