EULESS, Texas — Volunteers of America (VOA) Texas announced today that President and Chief Executive Officer Angela King will retire on December 31, 2025, concluding a distinguished career of nearly four decades in service to the mission.
King’s leadership has been a model of purpose-driven excellence. With 39 years of dedicated service—including pivotal leadership at the national office of Volunteers of America—she has consistently embodied what it means to lead with integrity, courage and innovation.
“When Angela stepped into the role of interim CEO during one of the most challenging periods in our organization’s history, she brought vision, strategy and unwavering faith,” said Duane Lock, board chair of Volunteers of America Texas. “Her transformative leadership restored stability, rebuilt trust and elevated the agency to new heights.”
After VOA Texas lost its charter and came under national oversight, King accepted the role of interim CEO during a period of crisis. She has led the restoration of financial health, increased transparency, and rebuilt a strong, diverse board of directors. Within four years, VOA Texas regained its charter—an extraordinary milestone that underscored King’s resilience and effectiveness.
As President and CEO, King boldly advanced the mission to “empower individuals and families to overcome obstacles to reach their full potential and thrive.” In a defining moment of values-driven leadership, she raised Direct Support Professional wages to $15/hour—despite state reimbursement rates of only $10.60—demonstrating her commitment to both staff and clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Under her guidance, VOA Texas expanded its footprint across the state, increasing access to affordable housing, substance use treatment, re-entry programs, disability services, and workforce development initiatives. Her leadership was defined by data-driven decision-making, measurable outcomes, and a relentless focus on impact.
King has also elevated the visibility and voice of the organization through media advocacy and public speaking, championing issues at the intersection of social justice, healthcare policy and human dignity.
“It has been the honor of my lifetime to lead this ministry of service,” King said. “Every day, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of faith, compassion and community. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished—and deeply hopeful for what comes next.”
VOA Texas will announce details regarding the transition to new leadership in the coming months.
