Maurine Beene, the resident at Park Meadows Apartments in Fort Worth, celebrated her 100th birthday on Easter Sunday. The staff at Volunteers of America Texas threw Maurine a party, invited her family, and cooked brunch which was served on fine china. Director of Marketing and Communications, Ericka English, reached out to Maurine’s favorite team, the Texas Rangers. While her favorite player, Joey Gallo, wasn’t allowed to make a personal appearance due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team sent Maurine loads of memorabilia, including an autographed baseball from Joey Gallo.

Like many American families, Erika Schoenhofer, Admissions Counselor for VOA Texas and her husband Robert live paycheck to paycheck while raising young children ages six and seven. In early 2020, the couple believed they had finally caught up on bills and were beginning to save money. When the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit unexpectedly across the country, the family suddenly found themselves overspending on food and supplies.
