I write to you today with humility, gratitude, and great excitement.

I am deeply honored and humbled to be selected to serve as the new President and CEO of Volunteers of America Texas.

As an Afro-Latina born in Houston, Texas, with Dominican roots, my background has instilled in me a deep sense of resilience, faith, and community. I understand what it means to overcome barriers and challenge expectations.

My professional journey began in education and later led me into banking and financial services, where I developed a passion for financial empowerment—helping individuals and families understand how to build stability and opportunity for themselves.

But in 2012, everything changed.

I was introduced to Volunteers of America Texas through an opportunity to teach a financial literacy class. During that very first experience, I met women in recovery whose strength and resilience reshaped my understanding of people, circumstance, and second chances. In that moment, I knew this was more than a job, it was a calling.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in many roles across VOA Texas, from financial coach to program leadership, to Chief Strategy Officer. Each step has deepened my belief in the power of this mission and the importance of meeting people where they are.

One of the most defining moments in my journey came during a time of crisis, when our communities were facing devastating loss. In just one week, our team mobilized to deliver critical supplies, distribute essential resources, and launch innovative recovery efforts to help families rebuild their homes and their lives. It was in that moment I understood what it truly means to lead with resilience, faith, and urgency—and how powerful it is when a team comes together in service of others.

Today, as I step into this role, I carry that same sense of purpose.

I am here to serve, our communities, our staff, our partners, and all those who place their trust in Volunteers of America Texas. I am committed to building on a strong legacy while continuing to innovate, grow, and ensure that every person we serve feels seen, heard, and valued.

This moment is not just a transition; it is an opportunity. An opportunity to deepen our impact, strengthen our partnerships, and continue creating pathways to hope and healing.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

With gratitude and purpose,
Danita Wadley
President and CEO
