Youth Prevention

Research shows that at-risk youth who participate in prevention programs ultimately make better choices about drugs and alcohol. Volunteers of America Texas work with children of clients in our treatment programs. We also work with at-risk youth through school-based curricula, to educate them about the dangers of substance abuse, improve their communications with parents and empower them to make positive choices when faced with pressure from peers.

VOA Texas is part of a national organization that provides substance abuse prevention education and alternative activities for youth and adults throughout Tarrant County and surrounding areas. Families can gain support with two programs, the Positive Action (PA) program and the Strengthening Families Program (SFP).

Positive Action Program

With a curriculum developed for students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, more than 10,000 schools and sites have used PA in all 50 states.

Strengthening Families Program

An evidence-based family skills training program was developed to significantly improve family relationships by reducing problem behaviors: delinquency, substance and alcohol use, negative peer relationships, and poor school performance.
